to coin a phrase - not once did I say all puppy mills are owned by the Amish.
I said the majority are owned by the Amish & Mennonites. they have large settlements in OH, MO, & several other states
there are several states that have no licensing requirements & they certainly don't bother calling USDA until they somehow get caught
99% of the people that buy at pet shops are not buying because of "potential". they are impulse buying "cute"
why do you think they start reducing the price?
an employee doesn't have to try to pass them off as a stray. they take them in with the shelters full knowledge |

I will just agree to disagree with you and the way you generalize and word things. It's all good! |

I have heard of the 'breeder/kennel' from the news article Pom posted. I think that is the type of 'commercial breeder' Natural Dane was talking about. That person REALLY shouldn't be called a puppymill. In my opinion, because the dogs ARE well cared for, despite the fact that they are in a large kennel.
That is not to say I think people should be supporting that type of kennel. I doubt they are able to possible socialize even the Puppies that they raise there-- and I doubt they do too much about genetic conditions.
I would never recommend someone purchase from that place, or again from a pet store that they supply-- but there are much worse.

I had no idea this place was 50 miles from me. I know there are ads in our paper every week that offer many breeds. I did call a few newpaper ads when looking for a yorkie just to see how they would respond, but not ones with several breeds. They were all questionable except one who had no females. My husband remembers me writing down that town on someone I called. |
