I beg to differ with those who think Shiffons don't exist are just a backyard accident worth $1,000. That's BS. I have a Shiffon, Yoshi. He's the most amazing, gentle, playful Dog I have ever owned. The combination is wonderful between the Shih Tzu and the griffon. Sweet and cute as can be!

Hhmmmm... I don't think I've ever heard people say Shiffons don't exist, but I agree they are real. I think people ask too much for them along with other "designer dogs", but as long as people are willing to pay it... I like Shiffons a lot, and would like one, but I want to see an adult in person before I get a puppy. |

What would be the point of having to see an adult before getting a puppy when we are talking about a mixed breed? Mixed breeds don't all look alike even within the same litter. Some are going to resemble one parent, some will resemble the other parent, some will be a mixture. There's no telling what you get when you're mixing breeds.
FWIW, I would never pay for a mixed breed unless it was the adoption fee at the pound. |

To each there own. I know a lot of people wouldn't pay for a mixed breed, but a lot of people do.
The difference is that most of the 'designer mixes' are small cute dogs that people want as companion animals. Not the large breed Hienz 57 that overload the shelters.
Right now, I think that Puggles are more popular than purebred Pugs and there IS a reason for that. Pugs have been bred for centuries for looks alone and they aren't very healthy dogs.
They are also a companion only breed, but when most people want a companion they would like one that can take a short walk with out being exhausted from breathing problems.
In my opinion Puggles are better companion dogs than Pugs or Beagles.

I know that no one has to like it, or agree with breeding mixes-- but if you look on this site you will see that 90% of the purebred breeders on here aren't breeding for show either. |

I can understand why yours would turn out looking "uniform" BB...you're mixing 2 breeds that look almost identical to each other to begin with (one Beagle looks pretty similar to another and same with the Pug). Now take a "Morkie" for instance, and you more often than not won't know what it will look like as an adult. |

I think what the OP is referring to is that we may have said there is no such thing - meaning the product is not recognized as a breed by a reputable registry

I personally have never seen an adult Shiffon, even on the net. It's hard for me to believe they "keep their puppy looks" like I've been told. If a breeder is trying to sell me a puppy, and they are telling me what they will look like I at least want to see an adult they've raised. I know they wont look alike, and it's a roll of the dice what you'll really get, but I don't see why a breeder wouldn't show me any adults. If they are claiming something... back it up. She was saying all her Puppies have this characteristic or that one, and I can't see the word ALL being appropriate for anything she was claiming.
I haven't looked into getting one in awhile because I'm not willing to pay a thousand dollars for a mixed breed, and the closest breeder was this woman I didn't believe. I do think once the Shiffon become less of a "must have trend" then the price will be more reasonable. But that's just me... and I've not seen that they are recognized by any group except some "Hybrid" group, sorry I can't think of the name. |

It's just a mutt/mix, plane and simple, it doesn't need a fancy name, we all know mutts exists. Some people just get suckered into paying way to much. Perhaps some sort of insecurity and they require a status symbol. |
