Our TEDDY BEARS
We are dancing on air in celebration as I have several small breed, non shedding companion dogs available or ------ anticipating the arrival of. Just a mere 27 years ago, I received a pair of Bichon Frise puppies for my 14th birthday – and have spent these past years raising Bichons and in the past few years have fallen in love with the Havanese and the Coton de Tulears. One can trace the origins of both breeds back to the Bichon – which is why all three breeds are small (approx. 10 pounds at maturity), non shedding, low dander, playful, intelligent companion dogs. It is much easier to list the similarities between the three breeds than the differences between the breeds. We have never had to experience health problems with our Bichons, so when we read about all of the breed ailments we do feel so lucky in that aspect. However, I favor the Cotons over the Bichons or Havanese and therefore most often cross with the Cotons to create our Teddies.
One of the fantastic qualities of these wonderful companions is their non shedding coats which are a gentle flowing coat of ultra soft waves which are generally kept relatively short, “puppy cut” style, but can also be left long. This mix is in the family of the Teddy Bear puppies, with just a bit more class. They have a wonderful sense of playfulness & a great love of toys as the Cotons do as well as a snuggly side from both sides. They are friendly, highly social, kid friendly, sturdy, calm dog which are truly a great mix. You will enjoy the length of nose that the Coton brings to the mix as the Teddy Bears will not have the snort & sinus problems that some Shih Tzus can. Their noses and faces are not extremely long on the other hand either, giving them a plump, full teddy bear appearance.
Just "food for thought". I grew up in a home where we always had female dogs in the home - never a male. After reading many, many breed books it has been said over and over that the males are really the more devoted companions. So------ when my daughter fell in love with a little male born a few days early in the middle of Grandma's dining room floor I decided to do a little more research. The vets just graduating from the nation's top veterinarian schools have now been taught that early spaying and neutering (meaning at 9-14 weeks of age) is best for the puppy - less hormonal tendencies such as leg lifting, "humping", etc. Our young vet was all for it and does neutering at 10 weeks of age. My daughter's Digby is such a joy. He will always squat like a female to pee, never thinks of marking territory, and yes - is very devoted. I now always recommend that unless you are considering breeding to keep an open mind regarding the sex of a puppy.
Our parents are well within the breed standards for weight and height. Mom and Dad are pictures of health, always doing well on their yearly health exams – never needing anything other than routine care in between check ups. Of course we would expect their babies to follow suit. I am sure you would be pleased with them.
I do indeed have a kennel, but you won't find any cleaner climate controlled environment, better taken care of mommies and daddies - and certainly not prespoiled babies. This is a family venture and we are with our babies a minimum of 12 hours a day - in fact each and every day we have friends out after school to socialize our puppies. Everyone take a turn in the office on our laps.
Our vet comes on site several times weekly - so the puppies are checked over a minimum of two - three times during their 10 week growing spurt with me. A Home Again microchip has been implanted for theft/loss protection and all come current on vaccinations and dewormings. A very detailed schedule denoting each and every item given will be sent along with your puppy. You will receive copies of all health check performed along with an Home Again microchip implanted (we also charge you the $20 registration fee and personally fill out that registration form and send that in for you, then provide you with the Home Again certificate documenting this registration into the nationwide program).Rest assured you are getting a quality, purebred, well taken care of, loved puppy.
All of my puppies are litter box trained before they leave for their forever homes. I love to hear that you are interested in making the investment in such a loving breed. I think it is worth mentioning some fairly new products on the market for puppies. When you begin to train a puppy, this is what I recommend - I am sold on the Purina Second Nature puppy litter and the medium sized Purina Second Nature litter box. Just order an 8 panel wire fence that is only 24 inches high. (from the Dr. Foster and Smith catalog- cheap shipping!!) Put this in a rectangular shape with the litter box at one end and the bed at the other end (and food and water of course). Whenever not in the house, put them in that area. You’ll never have a mess to clean up and best of all no messy kennel. Whenever you’re am home, put them out every two hours. At night they go back in to the wire fence. Kids have easy access to them, there is a gate that swings open so when the puppy can have run of the house once that bladder capacity is built up. Remembering that until 14 weeks of age a puppy will need a min. of 11 relief trips. I do have these playpens available for purchase here- either in a gold wire or a wooden mahogany finish.
I do charge a $50 shipping preparation fee which allows me to purchase a new Foster and Smith kennel, food and water dishes as required by the airline, necessary kennel stickers, a moisture proof packet of health information, vet check forms, pedigrees if you want them, registration forms, etc, I obtain an additional vet check before the flight, and finally make the 3 hour drive to/fro the airport for drop off.
I do ship within the US . Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer, but will be included in your final payment to us and will be prepaid to the airline. Our favorite, pet friendly airline is Continental Airlines – they do require prepayment of the flight. Shipping will run $250. Puppies are checked in at the airline's cargo office where they wait in the climate controlled area for the plane to be ready. They are then taken directly planeside and loaded in a pressure controlled, climate controlled area. Immediately upon landing they take them to your cargo office. You will show a photo ID to claim them as your own.
When you make your final decision we encourage you to place a $200 nonrefundable deposit to insure that you get the puppy you want. If you wish to bring your puppy home with you when you visit you may pay in full with a credit card, cash or check. If you definitely wish to secure a puppy from a future litter before the birth we ask for a $200 deposit. We would be happy to assist you in your choice of puppies and of course welcome you to visit us personally. I am attaching our health guarantee for your viewing. I ask for a signed copy when you purchase one of our babies.
We do offer a puppy package as well. This includes most everything that you would need for your baby such as a harness, leash, shampoo, brush, comb, blankie, toys, ball, first full sized bag of food, etc. We can offer this for less than pet store price with products that your puppy is accustomed to.
The Home Again microchip registration also covers a $3000 insurance plan so that if your pet would be injured after escaping from your yard or home it would be included in this plan or should your pet end up more than 500 miles from home Home Again would cover the cost of flying your pet back home to you. It is a nice plan to have in place. This registration fee in their national data base is a one time fee, although if you would like to have this insurance for injury during escape or a flight paid to return a lost dog back to you after the first year of age you will need to submit a yearly fee of $14.95 to Home Again. This would of course be an item purely of personal choice.
