Why do you or your family want a dog?

My wife and kids have been asking for a dog for years, but i always denied them. Citing that they were not ready for the responsibility (kids) or serious about keeping up with training (wife). But after several months of dog sitting for a family friend while he was deployed, I feel that they have proved themselves ready. I would like a Vizsla or Weimaraner to keep up with my kids abundance of energy. I feel that we as a family or finally ready to be dog owners (and not just me by myself)
