This big girl is believed to be a red tick hound dog, with perhaps some pit bull mixed in. I took her in from a kid who said someone had dumped her at his house. Poor thing was covered (and I do mean COVERED) in ticks. She had ticks six deep all around the edges of her ears. They were literally buried up under each other! If I were a betting woman (which I'm not), I would bet there were 500 ticks on this puppy ... seriously.
We brought her home with us, bathed her with flea and tick shampoo, and gave her a big bowl of food. She ate until she looked like she had swallowed a basketball. She is now current on worming, shots, heartworm preventative, and flea and tick preventative. And she's ready for her new forever home!
My daughter, Francie, and her husband, Brad, are making a trip to California in late Feburary and can bring a puppy on the road trip. Their route will take them from Russellville, Arkansas, through Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle, New Mexico, Holbrook, Arizona, Scottsdale, Arizona, Pheonix, Arizona, Twentynine Palms, California, Long Beach, California, Big Sur, California, San Jose, California, Pinole, California, Death Valley National Park in Death Valley, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and back to Russellville, Arkansas. The transportation cost is the same - $350 - but the puppy would road-trip instead of fly.
