I am thinking of getting a cairnoodle- what I need to know is if they still have their hunting instinct? I live on a farm and need a dog who is adept at hunting wolf packs, rats, etc. Has anyone seen this trait alive and well in their cairnoodle?

I have a cairnoodle for about two weeks. So far, in the backyard she is interested in rooting and sniffing the leaf piles, sniffing out in the bushes and around trees. She is like this on walks. She loves clumps of plants to dive into with her nose. She has never been in an environment where she could fully explore her senses until now. But, she seems to have them coming alive more and more. My sister has a Silky and I had a Yorkie as a kid. So far, taking into consideration her background of little to no dog stimulation until now, her instincts seem to scream terrier. But, it will take a while until all that is in full force with her. She is very sturdy and needs long walks now.

Are you seriously going to try to get a 15 pound dog to hunt down a wolf pack? Other than how ridiculous that is, yes they still have their hunting instinct. Ours used to run around the couple of acres we had hunting all of the pack rats and keeping them out of the machinery.
