As the article mentions, beagliers are in general not very good off leash. Ours is even hard to take on a normal walk as her nose takes over the rest of her senses, including hearing, haha.

I only ever let my beaglier off leash in side the fenced in park. Their desire to get a scent and go overpowers them. Lily will come back if a yell 'Stop' Come", but it's just to risky

we let our beaglier off his leash frequently, but he’s very attached to us so he never goes far.

It truly depends on which characteristics the beaglier gets. Some may have that tendency to run after a scent because they have received that trait from their beagle parent. Others may not because they are more like their cavalier parent and will cling to you and not the scent.

My cousins have a beaglier and for the first 3 months he would let him out off the leash and he would do fine. They live in a rural are so there are no cars to worry about. But after the first 2 months he had to put him on a leash because he would follow scents and other dogs/people and forget about everything else
