The schnauzer part of a Schnoodle is trained to sniff out truffles, or underground mushroom, so they do that.

Truffles??? Lol! Schnauzers were bred as ratters. From what I've read, they still retain the ability. I would imagine this would have something to do with them trying to sniff things out. Mine do the same.

It is a genetic behavior. Schnoodle's (early breeders of schnauzers) bred dogs that would search out vermin in and around their barns. The ones that didn't, who knows what happened to them but they were not desired nor bred. Any dog that is "trained" to do some thing must be trained to do so. If you did not train your dog to seek out truffles then that is not what it is doing. However it may be curious of any unusual scents and seek them out.
