I have a 3 year old goldendoodle that gets overly excited when seeing other dogs during a walk. What is the bast way to train him to relax when spotting another dog on a walk? He's lunges toward any dog he sees making it difficult to control and scares the little ones once near them.

When you see another dog approaching put your dog in a sit-stay (bring treats along if you need in order to do this). Let the other dog walk by while not letting your dog lunge. If she/he does make a quick correction with the leash and release. Do this as many times as you need to until your dog remains by your side and not lunging (treat when he/she calms down and is just sitting with you). If your dog will not sit or you don't think you can make effective enough corrections then I would place her/him in a down-stay and stand on the leash beside him so that he only has enough slack in the leash to have his head up but not Get up. She/he might struggle but remain calm and unemotional (when she does calm down, treat her). The best way to perfect this is to practice so ask some friends with dogs to help!! Good luck and Hope this helps!! Always treat your dog for good behavior. I always say, we don't work for free so why should they :)
