I have a 1yr old golden doodle..she has been in heat about a week.. still spotting but it is pretty light.. this is her 2nd cycle..didnt even notice the 1st till it was about over! How long does this usually last and when is it good time to try breeding? Hope to try to breed her next time! the male we have is only 5mos now! Hope he will be ready next fall! Thanks!

We had a golden doodle when I was a child, and as I remember she went into heat about every six months, and it lasted about 2 weeks.

Large breeds are usually not bred before age two to give the female's body and bones time to mature. Dogs are physically about 14 or 15 in human years at age 1 year, which is why breeders wait to insure a healthy litter.
