A Mini Aussie is still a Australian Shepherd, just miniature. Its smaller than an Aussie, and that's only because small aussies were bred together to make the breed smaller, which is more useful in some areas, and not so much in others.

Some of the Mini Aussie Breeders are now eligible to register their dogs with AKC under the name of Miniature American Shepherds.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd is the Australian Shepherd, just in a smaller package. Ideally, they should look EXACTLY like their larger counterparts. In a photograph, it should be difficult to tell their actual size.
