Do vizsla's tolerate cats when they are older? For example, I have had a vizsla for seven years...


Do vizsla's tolerate cats when they are older? For example, I have had a vizsla for seven years and it's been the only pet. Now i want to adopt a cat. Will he tolerate the cat after seven years of being the center of attention?

Our vizsla won't tolerate cats. In fact she kills them. They hunt anything that is smalller than they are and anything that moves...

My HWV was fine with my cat - problem was the cat was there first, her buddy was our Weimeraner and she didn't like the Vizsla. Before you adopt a cat take your Vizsla to a shelter or a Pet Smart that may have humane legue facilities in the store and see how the Vizsla interacts with the cat or kitten

It is up to the way you trained your vizsla. If you trained him to hunt there may be a problem. If he is the family pet it should be OK. Try bringing him around a cat or kitten from a friend or a pet store to be sure.

I adopted a 4 yr old Vizsla mix, he looks and acts like a Vizsla. He had been at the shelter for nearly 2 years and was not recommended for a home with cats, I have 2 adult cats. I had such a connection with him I had to take a chance and it has been fine. They aren't friends but he doesn't chase them and they aren't afraid. If they were outside it might be different. He is a great dog. Lots of energy and lots of love.
