My "granddog", a Vizsla who will be 3 years old this August 31 has recently had 2 or 3 seizures almost like human epilepsy where he falls down and starts shaking which lasts for about 20 seconds and as he's coming out of it he gets very aggressive and reverts to his wolf roots. He even bit my daughter, who he adores, when she panicked and tried to comfort him. Has anyone ever heard of the breed having this trait, causes and any cures? Thanks-we love him to death and are worried sick about him.

we also have a three yr old vizsla.he has had several seizure type incidents.its mainly when he wakes up or is falling asleep.he looks scared to death when it happens and it scared us as well.i just massage him or divert his attention on something else like by saying come on lets go for a walk.that snaps him out of it.i asked the doc and they said its ok as long as it doesnt happen all the time or very frequently.if it does they have to get on meds

Unfortunately epilapsy is a known health issue in the Vizsla breed. Like cancer or hip dysplasia, their genetic background can make them prone to this problem. If you can I would go back to the breeder to see if it is in his line. It should be documented so this dangerous trait does not get passed to future generations.
