Treeing Walker Coonhound Question

I have a walker mix and she did the same. I learned to train her to have a different reaction when someone knocks. Now she runs to her treat spot (the kitchen hutch) and waits for the new person to come and give her a treat. We also got her the super KONG that has the + on it to put her treats in so they don't just vanish. She will bring it right to you.

Positive reinforcement is KEY! Put the pup on a leash and teach him to sit whenever someone walks in the house and make sure you as the owner are giving the treat, because that will reinforce that he needs to listen to you no matter the situation. He will learn quickly. Our TWC would jump on our niece which was unacceptable and we did this as the vet suggested and now the leash is no longer needed and she sits before the person is in the house. She still gets a treat though as she is being trained. This breed does not respond well to a harsh hand or loud voices rather clam, respecting voices with a positive reward at the end. Patience is required as it may take a bit of time.
