just got a rescue silky terrier. having her groomed tomorrow - she is matted really bad. how long does it usually take to grow back? rescued from a puppy mill

It depends how short of a haircut you give your silky. If you go with a puppy cut, it can take a couple of months, but if you just get her trimmed, it won't take long at all. Her hair won't mat as much if you keep it short.

Cowboy Magic detangler works great to get snarls and mats out. For that matter so does baby oil. Don't leave either in and don't use people shampoo - too strong. Just takes some patience and fingers to pull apart snarls before brushing. Three farm silkies that love to play in hay, sawdust, twigs anything that will muss and tangle hair.

Silkies have hair like you and has to be brushed on a daily basis. If you use a spray on conditioner when brushing their hair it will help. I use a product called Seabreeze Oil when combing and it keeps my dogs hair shiny and soft
