Shelties can be great with children that they are raised with. Both the dog and kids will have to be taught to respect each other. No tail, hair or ear pulling; or teasing the dog about its food. The dog should learn not to chew on or nip the kids. You should use a leash to teach the dog that chasing and nipping at the kids heels as they run is a no-no. Unfortunately running children awaken the breed's herding instinct.

right now i have a two year old brother and four year old mini sheltie my dog acts like an angel to him mainly because dogs have been known to feel betrayed by a new person who gets all the attention so my suggestion would be to play it cool around them but i would say yes but tip: if your dog comes from a dog nursery and it gets a hold of food like mcdonalds or ect. do take it away with your hands it will fight for it .

Well I have a 9 year old Sheltie. She is not that good with small children to be honest with you. She is actually "scared" of small children. Introduce them to children as a puppy. Mine actually tries to bite my nieces. She"s also nopt comfortable with male dogs.
