I bought an eight-week-old miniature schnauzer yesterday and have fed her three times since then. I've noticed that it takes her a very long time to poop and pee. Is that normal? I have a different brand of food than what she has been using. Could that be it? I would like to be able to take her out immediately after eating because I want her to do her business outside instead of on puppy pads, but I can't do that when I don't know when she's going to go. Any advice would be great.

YES!!!! We have a 4 month old and we've had him since he was 10 weeks. This rascal can go 8 hours without pooping after having a meal! It all depends on his mood that morning or evening and usually if he's very distracted at bathroom time; looking at birds, sniffing out smells, etc., then he doesn't go. Even with a consistent schedule, my schnauzer pup may or may not poop soon after eating.

Remember Schnauzer can take one to two years to mature. I have had three schauzers and they all have had their own pace. They are smart and they will get it. Keep talking to them, but don't yell, they pick-up words well.

I have a five year old mini schnauzer named Hunter. When I brought him home he would have irregular bathroom patterns because of a buildup of eating "farm food". After a few weeks he regulated himself. Even if they don't need to go potty after eating, I would take him out. I would also try to put the same brand of food in with the new brand and wean him off of it slowly.
