Presa Canario Question

Thats a good question. That all depends on what you are training your presa canario dog to do. For obedience training no. Just like any breed presa canario's posses the strong urge to please their master. If you want the dog to be "less aggressive" it is printed in their dna. Some people will say its all in the way you raise the dog but those are the people that really dont know the breed. My last presa was a 140lbs male and he seemed to love everyone until one day my 8 month old niece was crawling by him , she is now missing her left arm the attack was completely unprovoked. Dont get me wrong i love the breed and im still very passionate about them but i just cannot bring myself to have another and risk the accident and possibly losing both a child and another dog.

If you are a very firm and very dominate type owner presa canario's are not hard to train. They require a firm hand because they are very dominate dogs but also love to please you. My presa cant stand for me to be mad at him. So he was pretty simple to train, not as easy as a german shepheard but not hard either. Treats are a great way to start training them and slowly moving off to just verbal.
