The Bichon does look a little like a toy poodle, however they are two separate breeds. Many dogs are descended from other breeds, hence the similarity. However over the years dogs were bred for specific purposes (i.e. herding sheep, tending cattle, guarding other animals) so they developed into separate breeds. Sometimes they retain a slight similarity.
