yes they (some) can go through a period referred to as the “puppy uglies” at around say 4-6 months of age when they shed their puppy coat and prepare for their adult coat to grow in. The baby fluff comes out and they tend to look very straggly or shaggy at that point, You may think you got jipped with some other breed or cross breed of dog even, say a longhair Chihuahua instead of your pretty pom pup. That is truly normal so have patience, it usually grows back beautifully, bigger and better than ever in a good quality Pom, so-so in a lesser quality Pomeranian.
Generally, by 10-12 months old (it varies a bit with the season -
coats thicken faster during the winter months) he or she is in a full coat.
