We have just recently adopted a dog from the humane shelter which they considered a Mt. Cur mix. She is brindle in color and a sweetheart. She fits all the characteristics of the Mt.Cur except for a long tail and semi-erect ears ( button ears. Could someone please tell me from what breeds did the Mt. Cur originate. I've read the historical backgrounds but can not find which breeds were crossed to get this breed.

they are a breed all their own, were the hounds of the royal in england. they just got down to so few before people like Dewey Ledbetter and a few more, who had some full orignal stock started the mt curr asso. they actully saved the breed from extinction.

Not all curs are born with short tails. Some are born with half length and others with full length. Natural bobs are preferred, so many people get their tails docked.
