We had mountain curs when I was a child. I do not recall every having to be separated from them, or being told to stay away from them. They were actually quite playful, but the problem would be because they are a large dog, they may knock a smaller child off their feet during play.

The concern with getting a grown dog is whether or not that dog is good with kids. Our mountain cur, missy, is very good with kids. We got her as a puppy. We have had many foster kids. Missy has always been good with even the babies. My wife says missy - where are your kids - and she puts her nose down and tracks our three kids down even long distance in the mountains. The only concern we have is when strangers come to the house. Curs are very protective. We have to hold onto missy till she is sure were ok with them being there, then she stays between them and my wife and kids
