I have just found out that my 7 months old Lhasa Apso bitch is having a phantom pregnacy by our vet. He advised that this may continue in her other seasons if shes not spayed. I wanted to breed her just once in September 13 when she will be 18 months. After this i was going to get her spayed. Does anyone know if this would be safe to spayed her after a litter next year or would you recommend i spayed her now? Any feedback would be greatly appriciated.

I would recommend that you get her spayed now because it really does not matter when she is spay. The only difference is that if she is spayed now she will have a lower risk of getting some types of cancer. Although Lhasa Apsos don't have a high risk of cancer so the choice really yours.

If you would like to breed her she should go through at least two cycles, that ensures she is mature enough. She should be about 2/12 years old an should be mature enough. Check with you vet also to ensure your dog is ready to breed .. Good luck healthy breeding to you .. Patty

My Lhasa went through that at age 3 1/2. it turned out that she had a herniated umbel (cant spell that word) cord. we had her spayed and she was alot happier and has not had any health problems since. It was a hard decision for me as well, because i wanted to breed her onc, but as I look back I know that I did the right thing! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
