I just got a jack russell from a shelter. They said he was there for 2 weeks. I think he has what they call kennel cough. what do I do or will it just go away?

Kennel cough does not just go away and it is contagious. Need to take to vet!!!

Kennel cough can be treated very effectively with vitamin C 500mg every 10 lbs. This way you don't have to go to the vet and both pay the high price along with getting the shots. Natural is always better if possible.
