What are the health risks associated with the Havanese bred - is a female healthier than a male or easier to raise - do they get along with cats - we have two Persians who are 4 and 8 yrs old both indoors all the time. What's the best way to train them to wear a harness or respond to a leash when being walked?

I have a 6-yr old havanese. These dogs are companions and behave like a child, will do anything to please you, may whine if they are not included with all who are coming into your home, and they can be jealous because they want to be sure that you love them...just as some children become jealous of others competing for Mom/dad's affection. re a leash train technique There is no dog as sweet as a Havanese--and btw, man can they run!! Don't let the size fool you. I walked my dog with the leash and any tug by her, I just stood still til she returned to my leg. You must be consistent. My reward for a well behaved walk was the release off the leash where I could really let her run. It is a dog's nature to sniff their way through this world.
