Great Pyrenees originate from France named for the mountainous region in south-western France called Pyrenees Mountains. They were used as a sheep guarding dog and in the 17th century they were also guarding chateau's for french nobility

great pyrenees originated in central asia and migrated to Europe 5000 years ago and by the 17th century they finally got to France where they were named after the mountainour region called the pyrennes mountains

Many thanks for Your Response. My Friends have a great pyrenees and have absolutely no idea where this Breed was originated. They do, however have 14 Goats and some Sheep and he does a great Job watching over them all.Thanks again and best Regards Axel L. Maier
