A great dane generally needs a high protein diet, as they are one of the fastest growing breeds, and need the protein to support this, and sweet feed is way too low in protein. I own both danes and horses, and the dane likes to steal the horse feed. A little bit of horse feed will not kill the should they get into it, but they should be on regular dog food to stay healthy. Hi-protein dog foods are better though, for puppies especially.

Your Dane is DOG! Not livestock! AND, do NOT Listen to the answer you were given by the other person here. A GREAT DANE PUPPY CANNOT HANDLE HIGH PROTEIN PUPPY FOODS!!!!!!!!! I just cannot stress this enough! Puppy foods are loaded up with high proteins that will literally cripple your Dane puppy as he/she grows. Buy adult dog foods and pay attention to what the ingredients are. NO CORN OR FLOUR! With good, NON-GRAIN dog foods, there is MUCH less poop to have to contend with, AND, they eat less. Protein range of 22% to 26% maximum. If the protein listed on the bag is even, only 1% higher than 26%, this WILL cripple your puppy, and if the protein level is anything under 22%, your growing Great Dane Puppy will literally starve to death, VERY SLOWLY. Fat range 12% - 15% maximum = moderate calories range (320 - 375 calories per cup)
