It is rare, but yes a Dane can bloat at any age. This is why understanding what to look for in a breeder and how well they select their breeding stock is so crucial. Genetics have an enormous role in the future health of your dog, so finding a responsible, ethical breeder is the way to go. All Dane owners should familiarize themselves with Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus, or GDV: initially brought on by stress (good, bad or indifferent), follow preventive measures, know the signs and symptoms, and have an emergency plan in place (know where the closest 24 hour veterinary hospital is - time is of the essence! Make sure they are familiar with how to treat bloat in a Great Dane).
