In our experience raising and breeding Great Danes for 20+ years, our opinion is to free feed. We feed a mixture of Science Diet Large Breed and Pedigree Large Breed. Our Danes also are fed raw meat as a supplement. We have always had healthy Danes!

It always depends on size and energy level of your pup. In general, I feed 4% of the growing pups weight (natural raw diet), divided into 2 meals a day. If feeding kibble, Danes should be on a holistic, grain-free dog food. If pup is of average size and energy level, 4 cups twice a day should do. Look at your dog - you should be able to see the outline of the last rib. If you see more ribs you need to increase the amount of food. If your dog doesn't have a defined waist then it is overweight and you need to reduce the amount of food.
