I have a great dane pup that is 4 1/2 months old. He weighs 50 pounds and you could see his ribs...


I have a great dane pup that is 4 1/2 months old. He weighs 50 pounds and you could see his ribs and a little bit of his pelvic and spine bones. I was wondering if thats normal or if it just means he will not grow as big as great danes are suppose to grow. Thanks!

It's perfectly normal in Dane puppies, and you want them to stay that way. If you can't see them, your dog is overweight

I was told by my vet that you should not be able to visually see the dane's ribs but when you move your hand across his coat you should be able to feel them. She told me this is a healthy weight for them. My dane is 5 1/2 months old and weighs 71 Ibs...I am 5'3 and he stands just about to my hip from paw to shoulder
