I am considering getting a Great Dane. Do they tear up furniture? If they do is it like most puppies or is it abnormal for any other breed.

Great Dane are puppies and they are LARGE so yes, they will chew on what is around them. Need to keep plenty of chew toys and supervision is a must, but they are wonderful family pets, great with children.

Our Great Dane Maxx ate a couch and a nice recliner but after he was a year old, he preferred raw hides. We had him for ten years and we had to put Maxx down today. I cannot describe the sense of loss. Maxx is the best dog I ever had. If I get another one, it will only be a Great Dane. He was protective of the family, loving to everyone that I said was OK, and a good wrestler in his youth. he almost 200 lbs. thank you Maxx

My boy is 110 pounds at 6 months. He has never chewed furniture... Only 1 pair of flip flops. He seems to entertain himself with his toys. Don't waste your money on stuffed toys. Kongs and Nyla products are harder to destroy. We keep braided bully sticks around at all times. He will chew them for hours.

Our Great Dane ate our couch, The WHOLE thing. The key is not to get to upset I told him NO NO eat the couch! in a firm tone. Are dog went and cried in his bed, til I went and got him. You just have to work with them

Our Dane Tiny used to go through seperation anxiety. Just couldn't leave him alone or something else was chewed up. Left him in the garage for a couple of hours and he chewed the fender on my motor cycle.

We have a great Dane english mastiff mix."Daniff" She is just 9 months old. When we leave her for even 5 minutes...she has eaten our furniture, coffee table, end table, tried to eat scissors, picture frames. They can reach up so high. We have a small fortune in bones, toys etc...she's busy!

Going through a new Dane puppy stage in our house and now I remember our Dane from the past. They love wood. My couch arms and bed frame were teething favorites, until someone recommended "Hippo Hide" from our local Wild Game and Meats shop in town. "Hippo Hide" was a waiting list so I settled for a "Giraffe" bone (a very hard bone) which was cut to appropriate sizes. I boiled it before giving it to her, she loved it and it lasted forever. Guess I'll be shopping there again real soon, can't afford to buy new furniture with this new Dane.

Raw hides, and antlers. They do love wood, when I take my Great Dane on a walk he loves to stop and chew up trees, and branches lol normally if you just talk to them and take your time to train them.
