We are looking at getting a GSP, but we are worried about leaving him in a crate during the day. We both work about 8 to 9 hours a day. He would get lots of exercise in evening , but worried the dog would be too stressed out. thoughts?

GSP's do demand alot of attention and affection. I don't think I would leave one in the crate for 8 to 9 hrs. Maybe if you could come home at lunch to let it out and exercise it a bit...Just a suggestion.

My vet told me a good rule of thumb is that a puppy can be crated for 1 hour longer than however months old they are...so for an 8 week old (2 months) old puppy, you can crate for 3 hours-- a e month old puppy for 4 hours-- a 4 month old puppy for 5 hours--etc... By 7 months old, the puppy should be able to hold his bladder for an entire 8 hour work day. I crate both my GPS puppies and I only had one accident one time and I think that is because I didn't watch to make sure he urinated before I put him in. I would not recommend putting an 8 week old puppy or even a 4 month old puppy in a crate for an entire day-- either let them out at lunch or maybe a neighbor or family member can until he/she is old enough to hold it for 8 hours.
