German Shorthair Pointers origianlly came from the peasant land in Germany and had to be tolerant of small children poking at them as well as other family pets being around them all the time. They are very tolerant of small dogs and children.

I have a German shorthair and a cat. My shorthair is very very tolerant of the cat, even!

I grew up with labs, but my GSP is the best dog I've ever had. Not only is he good , great in fact with my small kids, he is very well behaved with my horses, and my old chiuahaha who was found around here, and that little crabby dog is very hard to get along with. Only gives the wild pheasents and quail a run for the money if they are around and it is his running /playtime.... However easily called off. And I do not mind, it's what they are bred for.
