Well it depends on training history breeder ect. GSD (German shepherd Dog) is well known for being gentle with babies and small animals such as hamsters. With 3-6 or toddlers your GSD might get a little confused with all the "hands on fur". But over all a GSD is great with kids!!!

German Shepherds are known to be good with kids. Like the other person said, it depends on the breeder and other things. You will need to well socalize it with other children and teach your own how to proberly handle and live with them like any dog. HOPE THIS HELPS!

I had my first GSD before I had my children. Hans, (my GSD) at 2 years old slept under the crib from the moment I put it up and would lay with his head on my belly. From the moment I brought my first son home, Hans was his protector. Once my children were older he was so gentle, kind, loving and patient with them. At times I felt sorry for the dog, because as anyone with young kids would know....his patience was tested. He was truly their best friend. When my kids played outside, Hans went with them. When they played down the street at a friends house, he went with them. He also did not allow strangers to come up to my children. He would sit on my kids' feet to make sure he was there for them. Even when he was 12 and his health was beginning to fail he was still always there and around for my kids. We are now in the process of looking for another GSD as I wouldn't have any other breed as our family companion. Hope this helps.
