I have a wire hair fox terrier puppy. She is 4 mo old and she is the stinkiest dog I have ever known. I have to wash her every week because she gets so rank that my husband can smell her from 5 feet away. Now I love my puppy and I don't mind washing her, she is very good about bath time now But I wonder if the smell is a breed thing, or what she eats(purina puppy chow plus a little chicken for training), or maybe a sign of something wrong. So...is it normal for my puppy to be so stinky?

I think it must be the food. Our wire fox can go for quite a while without a bath and has no smell. We do get her stripped instead of clipped - don't know if that makes a difference.

I would check with your vet ... My 12 year old wire fox terrier has never had an odor problem...in fact everyone comments on the fact that they cannot even tell a dog is in the house.

My wire hair fox terrier gets really stinky, too, but only because he's figured out that if he roles in yard poop (especially deer poop) he can sneak up on deer and critters that roam into our yard. He gets bathed a lot, too, but doesn't seem to mind.

My wire fox used to smell like sour milk until I put her on a raw diet. Now she doesn't smell at all so clearly it was the food she had been eating previously which caused the unusual smell.
