We just got a dog with AKC papers that state he is a toy fox terrier. But he is already 5 lbs and only 8 weeks old. Is there any way he could *really* be a miniature fox terrier? Any way to really know? Thanks!

The breed standard is up to 7 lbs, but that does not mean that they can't get slightly bigger. He just wouldn't be in the breed standards to be able to show them. My UKC papered TFT is almost 18 years old, and he was about 8 lbs in his prime.

If he is larger than 7lb full grown they are not considered toy fox terrier but a fox terrier
