Our English bulldog just turned 6 last month. We still joke about how she was 1 1/2 before she was fully house-trained... we're only half-joking. She's a great dog, but you really do need to make sure that you're the master, and not the "pig," as we call our bulldog. They're good around kids, but you still should be really careful if the dog is eating/playing with a toy, because the dog could feel threatened and bite. But our bulldog is really good around little kids; she's REALLY protective too. The 4 kids in my home are totally "her kids." It's a great breed, but requires a lot of patience, but the constant source of humor and their great personalities are worth it. Oh, and be prepared for high vet bills...
