Dogue De Bordeaux Question

For some reason, no profile for large and massive dogs I've run across has ever been close to correct. A friend of mine once owned a 300 lb English mastiff the size of a small pony. That a Dogue de Bordeaux would reach such a size doesn't surprise me at all.

I find it hard to believe that your dogue weighs 200 lbs. even though i have produced one this size myself. The original standard did call for a dogue of this size but that hasn't been the standard for 100 years. it is possible that you have a dogue with recessive traits. it is also possible that your dogue is not pure. send me a photo and i'll give you my opinion as to whether this is a recessive trait or possibly the result of a cross breeding, keeping in mind that without DNA you could never be too sure. dogue@prodigy.net

I have Europian lines and have DDB male from 165 to 200lbs and this is totally normal for the breed.. the American lines are smaller normally except from the good breeder's that keep them in this range for males 165 to 180lbs and then the hand full of 190 to 200lbs
