I have found with this breed they prefer kids and are very protective of children. They, like all dog breeds, will have their puppy times where they want to rough house and play and don't intentionally hurt people but sometimes don't realize how big they are. It's better to get a puppy and have it grow up with children so they can get used to how your child is, but always monitor your children to make sure they aren't being mean and hurtful to the dog. This type of mastiff is not as tall as others but has more energy as they were bred to be more athletic. This bred originally was used in battle and as pack dogs.

Dogue de Bordeauxes are actually one of very few kinds of dogs that recognize their own strength and will not use it unless their family is truly threatened, so your daughter would be in no danger. They are powerful dogs that need to be trained correctly and exercised regularly. Without assertive leadership this dog could be dangerous. They are slow to learn, but eager to please. I have done much reading on countless websites on the breed myself. I know these dogs are fantastic pets, but not every person is right for this dog - that's up to you to decide if it is right for you. it takes much research.
