We have two dobies from the time they were puppies and they're almost 4 now. They calmed down about 5 months after we got them. But when they're around other dogs, they're constantly hyper even as old as they are.

doberman's aren't necessarily hyper, but they are very, very active. no human has enough energy to wear down an adult doberman's energy.

Research on the dob breed would be very helpful. I have been a Dober-Mom for over 36 years. Calm only comes in between burst of energy (that never changes with age). Dobs are working dogs and require A LOT of mental and physical challenge to make them a great animal to live with. They are like "energizer bunnies" if they do not rec. ample work daily. Please keep this in mind. Dobs can get very inventive trying to keep themselves occupied (tear up stuff). They have to be property socialized and TRAINED and require a knowledgable owner with patience, firmness, respect and positive re-enforcement. I love the breed but it is an obligation to become a responsible dob owner. Good Luck
