Most people that work do have pets. The good thing about dogs is that they sleep majority of the day. Its really important when considering getting a dog, to get one that is age appropriate. A puppy that is a little bit older will be able to be potty trained easier. Confinement of your new pet is also very important, you don't want to allow your puppy to roam the house and leave surprises everywhere. Set up a space ( laundry room or bathroom, use baby gates not the door) that will be comfortable, lights on, newspaper on one side and dish's and bed on the other, leave toys ( enrichment is better). Its good if you can come home and check your new pet at lunch time. As your pet grows up and gets used to a potty breaks outside, then it will be more trust worthy in the house. Maybe consider getting 2 pets so that they always have company, as dogs are pack animals.
