My son and I got our mini dachshund 3 wks ago. My husband was away for work for the first 4 days she was here. She is 2yrs. She has bonded great with me and my 10yo, but she HATES my hsbd! She goes after him all of the time! He'll calm her down by putting his hand behind her head and rub on her ears and talk to her, but when he leaves a room and comes back, she's back to going after him! I don't know why she won't warm up to him. He's very good with animals and has really tried to bond with her, but she won't. When he is in his chair or in bed settled, she's ok.Wwe are at our wits end! He wakes up at 4am and her barking and freaking out is disturbing the rest of us! I don't want to give her away, but if she doesn't come around soon, we will be forced to! My friend brought her man friend over and she didn't go after him, so i don't think it's a 'she don't like males' thing. I don't know what to do with her!

With him being away her 1st 4 days there she may be feeling like he doesn't belong and is intruding on her new family and home. Just give it time. Acclimating into a new family and home is hard for any dog and needs to be dealt with alot of patience, love, caring and hands on. Your Husband is just going to have to spend more positive time with her and not expect her to settle in immediately. It can take up to 2 - 4 months for a dog to totally acclimate into a new situation and home. If you give her the time filled with love and patience, you will have a wonderful loving family companion for the next 12 - 15 years.
