How old is too old for a male dachshund to breed? Our friends have a 2 year old and want our male to breed with her. Our male is 8 years old and is a little over weight. Is this dangerous to him at all?

I have a two year old female dachshund and my friend has a 13 year old male dachshund which we have successfully bred - my Lilly is due next week. She is carrying three pups. Both are pure breed mini's. We bred them since flash (the male) getting older and his owner wanted to carry his legacy on. It's not dangerous for him to breed at all.

It's female dachshunds 7 years & older that should not breed if they have never had a previous litter. Males can breed as long as they are able to mount the female.
