If your dachshund puppy cannot hold its potty in the crate, you are leaving it in there too long. Wait until the puppy is closer to 4 months old to start using a crate again. Right now put the puppy in the bathroom, using a baby gate across the door jam to keep puppy in, place newspaper nearest the baby gate. Keep the door open. Place a bed and a food and water dish in the back away from the newspaper. Keep plastic bags, a nontoxic bathroom cleaner, and paper towels near by to be able to roll up newspapers and put in the bag and clean with paper towels. Your puppy when not supervised should stay inside this area. You can leave toys like Kongs stuffed with peanut butter, or Nylabones. When your playing with your puppy Supervise it at all times.
