I have owned a pomapoo, German Shepherd and multiple Keeshonds and I have found the Keeshond to be the best breed out there. The Keeshond is a wonderful family dog...good with people, children and other pets. They bark at every sound but wouldn't actually hurt anyone or anything. I had 3 and they were all wonderful and healthy pets. You have to brush them at least once a week with a wire brush to keep the coat from matting but are otherwise a very easy to maintain pet. I have 1 of mine left( the 2 older ones died last year) but am looking for another to add to my family. I highly recommend if you are willing to spend 30 minutes a week grooming it.

A collie is an excellent watch dog. They are easy to train and can be trained to bark when appropriate. Mine bark when a car, a stranger, or a strange animal come to our house. I can tell the difference between their barks and they stop when I tell them "it is okay". Collies naturally love people and get along well with other animals because they have an instinct to protect/herd other animals.
