When a dog gets bored, it will start doing undesirable behaviors like this. It means she needs more to do with her time. Try adding more activities. Collies love people and make great therapy animals. There are toys that can have treats put inside to create a challenge. Some collies are more active than others and need more to do.

Not only can giving your Collie more activities help, but if digging persists you can also put gravel where common digging locations are, and that can discourage digging because it's not as pleasant on their feet as dirt is. I've also used sticks for my dog when he was digging for a while (my neighbors had just gotten a horse and he REALLY wanted to check it out).
