Well, your cocker spaniel is very young and will be in training to learn how to better help itself with this as it gets old. Right now "puppy pads" (those quilted pee sheets) are what most 3 month old puppies will be using, mine does. Also, I crate mine at night with a warm blanket & little dish of wet puppy food. First thing when I get up & greet him, I carry him over to the outside fenced deck and set him down, saying "lets go pee" to create that new habit for the future...Puppies are exactly like kids, takes alot of time, patience, repeating day after day. No secrets or shortcuts with pets, they are very real and relying on people to help them understand. :)
