The AKC standard for a chihuahua is four to six pounds. A female smaller than that would be classified as a teacup chihuahua and the risk of cesarean delivery increases. The size of the father makes a difference as well. The best way to know is to ask your veterinarian who can chart the dog's growth and overall health.
