Chihuahua Question

how long does it take for their ears to stand up

Typically, chihuahua ears are BORN up, or are by the time they are 3 weeks old. If they are not up by this time, poor breeding should be suspected (ears too long). They can be trained up by using masking tape. Fold the ear in half long ways and tape them around with the masking tape. It is a poor adhesive, but is enough to hold the ear in the upright position as long as the tape is worn. It can be taken off 3-5 days later. If it is possible for the ear to be upright, this will do the trick. This works for all short eared dogs, not just chihuahuas.

I have raised over 20 litters. I have never had a pup born with ears up. My smooth coats ears come up at 4-6 weeks. Long coats at 6-14 weeks. Only one pup who's ears never came up. Don't really know why other than too heavy.
