I would avoid any "breeder" who advertises mixed breeds or "designer dogs". There is nothing wrong with mixed breed dogs in general, some of the best dogs come from shelters. However someone who breeds "designer dogs" typically does not have the dogs best interests at heart. Some are uneducated at best, but the majority are downright unethical. Dogs come to you with a myriad of health and temperament issues can be avoided by appropriate health testing of parents. Backyard breeders, though they usually don't mean any harm, typically do not have the means or motivation to do any sort of health testing on their dogs.
